What to do while in Dominica shouldn’t be your question, but rather how many activities are you willing to fit into your day’s schedule is a more suitable.

Dominica is a small, but mighty island that’s comprised of 365 rivers, literally a river for each day of the year, is home to the 2nd largest boiling lake in the world, has 9 active volcanoes, has an abundance of beautiful black sand coastline, is full of hot springs, and is mostly covered by rainforest.

While in Dominica, I had to pleasure of visiting several natural local wonders, but the two listed below are things that you absolutely must do while in Dominica.

Things To Do While In Dominica: Visit Trafalgar Falls

Trafalgar falls are two majestic twin waterfall located in the town of Trafalgar. The tallest of the pair is affectionally called “Papa Falls”, which is 125ft tall and the shorter, but more powerful waterfall, which stands at 75ft tall is called “Mama Falls”. Although there are many waterfalls throughout the island, Trafalgar Falls is the only twin waterfall in Dominica. It is one of the island’s most popular natural attractions. From the visitor’s station, expect a 10-minute hike to reach the falls. If you’re anything like me, a 10 minute hike can easily turn into 20 minutes or more. I kept catching myself becoming easily mesmerized by Dominica’s natural beauty, lush greenery, vibrant plants, and colorful flowers. As a plant lover, I was able to appreciate the many species of plants, many of which I own, growing free in the wild. Dominica is home to 188 species of fern and along the trail to Trafalgar Falls you will find many different varieties.

Trafalgar Falls isn’t just a beauty to marvel over. It serves as an important purpose for Dominica. While visiting Trafalgar Falls, you’ll notice large steel pipes near the visitor’s center. These pipes carry water from the Fresh Water Lake and Titou Gorge to the power plants at Trafalgar. The water is then turned into a source of sustainable energy generating hydro-electricity for the island.

Things To Do While In Dominica: Ti Kwen Glo Cho

Because Dominica is home to many active volcanoes the island produces a variety of hot springs on the island. Ti Kwen Glo Cho is a family-run establishment that’s set up like a garden from a fairytale. The hot springs is situated in the middle of the rainforest and is cascaded by a variety of tropical plants, fruit trees, and beautiful lush greenery. You have the option to choose from different pools to relax in, either those of a different size or those varying in temperature.

Depending on where you are in the world, relaxing in a sulphur pools is probably something you’ve never experienced before. Although, I’m privy to the benefits of sitting in sulphur pools, visiting Dominica has allowed me to experience it for the first time.
