I recently had the pleasure of experiencing Ray Caye Island Resort in Belize, located off of the coast of Placencia Villiage, and I fell in love with every part of this sustainable and eco-friendly paradise.

Ray Caye is a private 7-acre island that captures the true beauty of nature. With a pristine shoreline, warm crystal-clear waters, and with only a limited amount of guests per time, this is a resort that understands creating a tranquil atmosphere for its visitors.

The resort features all of the amenities that you will ever need such as a pool, full bar, restaurant, a spa, and has tons of activities that you’ll never get tired of. I visited Ray Caye Island Resort for a solo excursion, however, it’s the perfect destination for a couple’s getaway or for a relaxing trip with your besties.

Currently, I’ve visited close to 10 countries and have had the pleasure of staying in countless hotels and resorts. Ray Caye Island Resort was by far one of the top hotel resorts that I’ve visited.

From its dedication to sustainability, its wonderful amenities, amazing views, and delicious food, Ray Caye Island Resort should be a must-visit when traveling to Belize.

Hotel Rooms At Raye Caye Island Resort

While at Ray Caye Island Resort, I had the pleasure of staying in one of their oceanfront cabins. The cabin that I stayed in was nestled between their greenhouse, where much of the restaurant’s vegetables and herbs are grown, and the ocean.

There was an arrangement of seashells, tropical flowers, and lush greenery leading up to the pathway of my cabin which lead to the open view of the ocean. Since Ray Caye Island Resort is on a private island and they limit the number of guests that they have at the property, staying there felt as though I had the entire island to myself.

I fell in love with the big windows of my oceanfront cabin and its big front porch. Watching the sunsets was one of my favorite highlights of this trip. In addition to the oceanfront cabin that I had at Ray Caye Island Resort, the hotel offers a variety of accommodations that are tailored to your needs and budget.

Their hotel rooms ranged from beachfront villas, honeymoon suites, and ocean villas. No matter the room that you choose, know that design and thought were given to each accommodation’s aesthetic.

Each villa, cabin, and suite blends seamlessly into the natural surroundings while providing you with modern amenities and comforts such as air conditioning, wi-fi, and private bathrooms.

The Sustainability of Ray Caye Resort

Sustainable Method for Power

Ray Caye Island Resort has implemented various sustainability efforts to become a leader in eco-friendly tourism. Ray Caye has installed solar energy, economical water systems, and has introducing the TESLA Powerwall.

This is the world’s first home battery product, driven by their visionary CEO, Elon Musk. Ray Caye operates nearly 500 solar panels that capture the sun’s energy. This eliminates the need for bulky diesel generators that pollute the environment.

The resort’s cutting-edge technology and dedication to sustainability sets Ray Caye apart as a leader in eco-friendly tourism. During my welcome tour, I was told that the island runs off of sunshine about 90% of the time! This was amazing considering the secluded nature of the resort.

Being that I stayed at the resort for a few days and was able to experience the benefits of being on an island that’s committed to its sustainability efforts and lessening its carbon footprint, it was only a wonder why most hotels and resorts aren’t following in Ray Caye’s footsteps.

Being on a sustainable island was nowhere near primitive, as most of the general public would think. I had access to power, in my room and throughout the property, for my various charging needs, access to hot water, strong hot running water for showers, and water to flush my toilet.

Knowing that I’ve made an eco-conscious choice for my vacationing needs, the solar energy at Ray Caye Island Resort only enhanced my stay.

Sustainable Water Systems

Ray Caye Island Resort is committed to providing guests with an eco-friendly experience that is both enjoyable and sustainable.

The island has two Reverse Osmosis systems and one UV system to purify water on the island. Ray Caye collects rainwater in seven Rotoplas tanks that hold 2,500 gallons each. This system collects a total of 285,000 gallons of water annually.

Ray Caye also uses between 1,600 to 2,000 gallons of water per day with an average of 50,000 – 60,000 gallons monthly and 630,000 gallons annually. Out of the many hotels and resorts that I’ve visited throughout my travels, seeing a resort committed to sustainable water usage and conservation was astounding.

Seeing this, I could only think that the world would be in a far better position with providing safe and clean drinking water if they were to adopt the same sustainable mindset as Ray Caye Island Resort.

All the buildings on the island have a rainwater holding tank with a capacity of 250 gallons – summing to about 4,000 gallons for the entire island. Additionally, Ray Caye uses UV filtration and desalinization technology to provide clean drinking water straight from the tap.

Organic & Sustainable Farming

Ray Caye Island Resort takes pride in its commitment to providing guests with an eco-friendly experience. Their organic garden is tended to by Damiano, a dedicated gardener, who has a green thumb for growing amazing produce.

Their selection of fresh fruits and vegetables includes basil, mint, tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach, and more. The Lionfish Grill, Ray Caye’s onsite restaurant, uses some of the locally grown produce to make delicious meals.

Ray Caye also has a three-bed expansion dedicated to growing cucumbers, cilantro, mint, sweet basil, African basil, tomatoes, cabbage, and Bok Choy from donated seeds that visitors have graciously brought with them.

All of the meals that I had while staying at the resort were absolutely phenomenal and fresh. With every bite, no matter what it was that I was eating, you could tell that the herbs and vegetables that were used were grown with love and care.

Ray Caye ensures that their guests have access to fresh, organic produce while also helping to reduce their carbon footprint.

Enjoy Nature & Eco-Friendly Activities

Ray Caye Island Resort offers its guests an experience like no other with plenty of nature and eco-friendly activities to enjoy. Situated in the Caribbean Sea, Ray Caye is its own private island, surrounded by crystal clear waters and abundant marine life.

Guests can explore the waters by kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, or swimming with tropical fish. Those looking for a more adventurous experience can take advantage of Ray Caye’s proximity to Belize’s Barrier Reef, the world’s second-largest reef.

This makes a perfect base camp for fly fishing, deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, and snorkeling. Ray Caye also offers guided tours of the barrier reef where visitors can get up close and personal with vibrant marine life.

Ray Caye also extends to a private island, Moho Caye, which is surrounded by natural coral reefs and perfect for private charters on the resort’s luxurious 46-ft catamaran. Ray Caye makes sure that their guests are able to explore safely and responsibly as they implement a catch and release policy allowing visitors to speargun lionfish while diving which can later be eaten at the restaurant.

Since I was only there for a few short days and was solo, I didn’t have time to do all of the activities. If you’re booking a stay be sure to book at least 4 days/3 nights minimum so that you can experience all that this island resort has to offer.

Ray Caye Island Resort was truly an unforgettable experience as it allowed me to reconnect with nature in some of the most stunning surroundings in the Caribbean.

The staff at the resort is also pretty helpful, they were able to answer the various questions that I had about exploring the island as well as the rest of Belize.

Whole Island Rental Of Ray Caye Island Resort

Another wonderful option that Ray Caye Island Resort offers is that they allow guests to rent the island!

I discovered this while eating dinner with a few other guests. One mentioned that he would be renting out the island to celebrate the marriage of him and his wife.

The entire island rental has a maximum of 50 guests and includes food, drinks, a snorkel tour to Silk Caye Marine Reserve, ground and boat transportation, and complimentary use of paddle boards and kayaks.

Being that the resort is on a private island and has all of the amenities I’d ever need including a wellness/yoga room. I can definitely see myself hosting a Blossom and Sol wellness retreat at Ray Caye Island Resort in the near future!

At Ray Caye Island Resort, I was able to experience an amazing and luxurious getaway surrounded by the stunning beauty and lush greenery of Belize.

With a variety of activities that I was able to choose from, delicious local dining options, and luxury vacation packages that were tailored to my needs.

This was the perfect destination to jumpstart my Caribbean adventures. Travelers that are looking for a unique and unforgettable Caribbean experience will be sure to fall in love with Raye Caye Island Resort just as I did.
