#CurlyGirlPicnic

Save the date!! March 17th, 2018

The Co Report will host their first ever-natural hair picnic during SXSW at Huston Tillotson, a Historical Black College & University, from 9 am – 5 pm. This event will feature a majority of Black-owned brands in cosmetics, natural hair care, skin care, and various other goods and services. The Curly Girl Picnic is expected to host over 1500 interested women.

“There are many women of color, myself included, who have attended SXSW and have felt culturally left out due to the lack of genuine representation as well as the lack of meaningful discussions, gatherings, and events that are specific to people of color. The Curly Girl Picnic is our save haven – Coco Bates, Content Creator for The Co Report

This will be an opportunity for women with kinky, curly, and coily tresses that will be in the Austin area during SXSW to come together in a positive environment to network with one another, learn new techniques in natural hair, beauty, and skincare. There will be live discussions that will pertain to self-love, natural hair, skincare, entrepreneurship, traveling abroad, and dating/relationships. Attendees will be allowed to interact as well as ask questions to the panelist. In addition to the natural hair festivities, the event will kick off with a yoga and meditation session to the sounds of live African drumming. The event will include an eclectic mix of live music and poetry selections.

We are looking to partner with a wide variety of brands in the form of product donations for raffles and sponsored brand booths to lead seminars and tutorials that will feature their products. Each brand that chooses to partner with us will receive The Co Report’s email list that will include its current email subscribers along with the emails of each attendee of the Curly Girl Picnic. In addition to partnering with various brands, we are looking for a variety of media outlets that would be interested in covering The Co Report’s Curly Girl Picnic.

 Munirah Small

Munirah is the proud mother of two beautiful daughters. Her children were and are her constant motivation. Following her divorce in 2002, she began to look at ways to be able to juggle her more than full-time work schedule with her children’s growing extra-curricular schedule. So in 2007, Munirah launched her own personal chef and catering business, Culinary Diva. With no budget, no credit and no clients, within 72 hours, she was in her first client’s home as their personal chef. With that initial push, she journeyed out and aligned with 98.5 FM The Beat. She would be the preferred caterer for The Beat’s summer concert, The Beat Bash, for the next three years. Munirah successfully ran Culinary Diva by 100% referral for the next eight years. As fate would have it she would soon take another turn in her life journey.

In 2015, she launched Sweet Themes LLC and hung up her culinarian chef hat. She walked away from corporate America and began a whirlwind ride in the custom cake design arena. In creating a different consultation experience, she soon discovered her gift in speaking with people. Munirah’s consultations became as therapeutic as her cakes. The more she shared, the more her clients listened. The Fall of 2017, she decided to pursue the path of public and motivational speaking. The rest is history. Munirah describes her motivational speaking as conversational exchanges. She enjoys speaking with and sharing with her audience.
