Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival was an amazing way to end my week-plus-long stay in Dominica. I’ve always been a fan and avid listener to reggae, soca, and other forms of creole and Caribbean music. However, attending the World Creole Music Festival was the first time that I was able to experience a festival of this magnitude while in a different country. The experience was phenomenal and I’m looking forward to being a regular attendee of Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival.

Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival

Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival started in 1997 as a way to promote local and surrounding Caribbean and creole artists and as a key factor in driving tourism to the country. This year’s festival hosted over 23 performers over 3 nights with infectious rhythms of creole & Caribbean music such as, indigenous folk, reggae, calypso, and soca.

Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival attracted a record number of festival goers, particularly large crowds from St. Lucia and other surrounding Caribbean islands that were ready to dance and party the night away to a star-studded lineup of performers. Artists such as, Sheseea , Original WCK, Colton T, Kes the Band, Omah Lay, Sizzla, and crowd-favorite, Burna Boy were among the few artists that gave amazing performances.

The festival took place this year for the first time since Covid in 2019. The turn out for this occasion was huge as people , including myself, were ready to dance and celebrate until daybreak. The big turnout for Dominica’s world creole music festival was much needed as the Island is still recovering from the disastrous after effects of 2017’s Hurricane Maria.

In addition to the performances being held over the 3-day event at Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival, there’s plenty of other activities besides music that festival goers can experience. The Festival takes place at Windsor Stadium and there are activities to experience all over the field. There are numerous of food and beverage vendors, a second, but smaller stage on the court that hosts a selection of local and cultural performances.

If you were ever thinking about getting any version of the VIP tickets, my suggestion is to DO IT!!! With certain VIP tickets, you’ll have access to complimentary food, alcoholic beverages, Instagramable photo-taking stations, comfortable rest and recharge lounges, and so much more. The VIP section serves as an intimate way to experience Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival while being able to socialize with other festival goers.
