How I Created My Sonoma County Wine Country Staycation?
As someone who lives in Houston, Texas, and loves taking staycations nearby – this sweepstake was music to my ears! So I thought, why not make my own?
So I made the short drive out from Houston to a rural town to enjoy an incredible picnic surrounded by greenery and overlooked by a hay field.
I brought with me all I needed for the perfect staycation: a book, some delicious watermelon and cantaloupe, and of course Matanzas Creek’s 2022 Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc.

Matanzas Creek is a sustainable winery based in California and is part of California’s Sustainable Wine Growing Alliance. I love any and everything sustainable and was super excited to partner with a sustainable wine brand.
Although I’m not a heavy alcohol drinker, when I choose to drink it’s almost always wine. And believe it or not, this is the first that I’ve ever drunk or been associated with a sustainable wine brand!
The fruit that they use for their wines comes from sustainable farms sourced throughout Sonoma County. In addition to providing great quality wine, Matanzas Creek also focuses on promoting the biodiversity of their estate with their massive lavender field.
This helps attract different species of pollinators and insects. They also participate in regenerative farming practices such as having cover crops and using compost to enhance the health of the soil.
Matanzas Creek is located near a 5,000-acre park. Because of this, the estate chooses to leave 75% of its property untouched. This provides a natural landscape for the surrounding animals that inhabit the land. Visiting this Sonoma Creek winery will be sure to promise you a unique and unforgettable experience.
