In the last post, I introduced one of my favorite trends for Spring 2014, Art Influenced. It was seen on the runway by power hit designers such as Celine, Dior, Christopher Kane, Jil Sander and Cushnie et Ochs. The bold prints might deter the fashionably timid, but will lure those who enjoy taking risks. This trend works best with minimal jewelry and paired with other colors within the main color palette of your base piece. Although this trend looks its best when worn with minimal jewlery, the key to pulling of anything art influenced is to not fret over bold colors and prints. Fashion is all about taking fun risks and trying new things, which is the main reason why I’m in love with this artful trend. It forces one to reach out of their comfort zone and have the possibility of falling in love with something new.
For my fashionista’s who aren’t ready to step all the way out of the zone yet, baby steps are perfectly fine. Start off with a fun print such as this splash-print silk skirt by Tibi paired with this fishnet cut leather double strap crop top by Cushnie et Ochs and pairing them with these lovely Jeffery Campbel Darling Pumps from Nasty Gal. Start off in increments until you get the hang of it. For those who are feeling just as bold as I am, don’t be afraid to break the rules of fashion. Art influenced looks allows you to clash bold colors such as lime greens and raspberry reds and mixing funky prints such as your basic chevron pattern with leopard. Find one key art influenced garment as your base and build the rest of your outfit around that item. You can do this by coordinating the main color in your garment to find a matching piece or instead, which is my favorite, create a color scheme from the main color in you base garment.
Don’t over think this trend because there isn’t a perfect formula to executing this look. Just remember to have fun with it and take risks!
