It’s been one full year since Pat McGrath dropped Gold 001, the jaw-dropping pigment that took over all of our favorite Instagram accounts. Pat McGrath Labs specializes in lustrous, outside the box makeups that will make you look outside this world. From Gold 001, to Phantom 002, Skin Fetish 003, and Lust 004, comes the latest in a beautiful line of glossy shimmers – Metalmorphosis 005.
Now available both online (although many products are currently sold out on patmcgrath.com) and in stores at Sephora, Metalmorphosis comes in three different purchasing options. The everything kit provides you with just that – everything. Pigment, cream, mixing liquid, and an eye pencil. This is, according to McGrath, the best eye and lip kit there is. The pigments and creams come in four metal tones: gold, silver, copper, and bronze. The eye pencil only comes in black, but has two ends – one for thick, dramatic lines and one for thin, sleek ones. The everything kit is priced at $165.00. If you’re not ready to fully commit, you can also buy the Metalmorphosis in a color specific kit. In this, you get one pigment, cream, mixing liquid and eye pencil in one color (copper, bronze, gold or silver), for $60.00. The only item from these kits that can be purchased completely separately is the eye pencil, for $24.00.
A first look at this kit might be a little daunting. After all, we’re used to the terms “lipstick” and “eyeshadow,” not “pigment” and cream.” Really, like all other Pat McGrath concoctions, it’s quite simple. The cream is to be used first, and in some cases, only. The cream itself will look plenty beautiful, gliding onto your skin like creamy butter. This can be used pretty much anywhere – eyes, lips, shoulders, neck. Swiping some cream across your lids is the classic look, or creating a gilded lip. Decorative patterns on other parts of the body that you wouldn’t normally adorn, like arms and shoulders, are another look that many have embraced with the Metalmorphosis collection.
After using the cream to sheen, try putting some pigment over it for a truly metallic aesthetic. Mixing the pigment with the mixing liquid will make it soluble, easier to glide and paint your face with. The eye pencil is perfect for final touches and sharp details. This kit is designed for the woman who’s ready for a daring night out. This metallic mixture will transform your skin into a level of perfection that is non-human (robotic, by the level of luster you’ll be giving off). “Today’s woman, for us, beauty is about trying new things,” McGrath told Harper’s Bazaar. “It’s about trying something different.”
