View Our Complete Master List of Black Owned Lingerie Brands HERE. (Always up to date list! )
A few days ago I found myself browsing Instagram and came across the countless posts of, mainly Black, individuals praising Victoria’s Secret for including 6 new Black models for their 2017 Fashion Show in Shanghai. The six models that were featured were Aiden Curtiss, Samille Bermannelli, Amilna Estevao, Alecia Morais, Mayowa Nicholas, & Grace Bol. I am extremely proud of these amazing Black models showcasing Black excellence. However, it seemed as though many were looking at Victoria’s Secret’s inclusion of Black models in their runway show as some form of racial progression. Besides from Victoria’s Secret, our constant fixation with White labels featuring Black men and women needs to cease. Just because a brand chooses to feature Black bodies in their runway shows and in their marketing campaigns do not equate to the brand making genuine efforts towards racial progress. Most likely, the brand is only concerned with improving their sales for the quarter.
It’s 2017 and it’s time that we shift our thought process in what racial progress in action looks like. For starters, instead of us being excited and fixated every time a major White brand includes Black bodies, we should use that same energy in supporting and providing monetary support to the many Black-owned brands that are providing exceptional products and services.
This probably explains why Victoria’s secret stop selling my bra size year ago. This list is helpful. Thank you
