Women with brown skin tones tend to shy away from blush because the predominate color that we see in drugstores and at beauty counters are for women with paler skin complexions . With me, I’ve learned that it’s all about trial and error. It took me a long time to find those right collections of blushes that compliments my skin tone. Hopefully, this post will make it super easy for you guys the next time you’re at a beauty counter or drugstore searching for that perfect blush. Also in my beginning days of wearing blush and makeup, I found it extremely useful, although more expensive, to buy makeup from places that let you try on the products before purchasing them such as Sephora, Ulta, or makeup brand counters such as MAC, Nars & Bobbi Brown. This was extremely beneficial to me because the sales staff were able to educate me in why particular shades complimented my skin tone while others didn’t. At drug stores, you just aren’t able to try on the blushes before you buy them and if you are new to the blush game then it could just get down right discouraging if you are continuously picking out the wrong shades time after time. Rust, plums, bronze and burnt orange colors compliments browns and deep ebony skin tones well. Just make sure you blend well and apply it to the natural contour of your face.
Brown skin that’s medium to dark with cool undertones will look extremely great in YSL, Passion Rouge (#5). Skin hues that’s medium to dark with warm undertones harmonizes well with Bobbi Brown’s Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks (#1) and Tom Ford’s Narcissist (#6). Tangerine and deep plum blush colors such as Exhibit A by Nars (#2), and Dark Raspberry 58 by Makeup Forever will also look great in darker hues. The darker your hue the more you need orange and red tones to warm up your cheek. Women with lighter brown completions can pull these color’s off as well, but just remember to be light handed with the blush. Women with deeper skin tones will mistakenly opt for a pale blush which will unfortunately make them look ashy. No one wants an ashy face. Taj Mahal by Nars (#4) and Ambering Rose by MAC will compliment almost all spectrums of brown skin from the cafe au lait Rocsi Diaz to the dark chocolate hues of Alek Wek . Since most blushes are trial and error use the blushes recommended in this post as your starting guide to see which hues you look and feel the most comfortable in. Once you find that ‘It” color, you can then build your basic everyday blush collection around that one perfect complimenting color. Also after you get comfortable with your blush routine, don’t be afraid to try fun blush colors such as, Libido by Illamasqua or Fuscia 26 by Makeup Forever for a bold new look.
