For current and aspiring travel influencers, many of you might have questioned if it’s possible to either become or remain a travel influencer during Covid-19. Many of us might have had trips that were forced to be canceled because Covid-19 has limited travel outside of our home countries. We aren’t able to travel from country to country as easily as we did prior to the devastating effects of the Corona Virus, especially if you are from the United States. However, being a travel influencer during Covid-19 is still possible. There’s no doubt that this virus has wreaked havoc on our society. The virus has negatively impacted just about every industry imaginable. Many countries have closed their borders by restricting travel from non-citizens, while other countries have banned only certain nations from entering.

According to USTravel.org, “Since the beginning of March, Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in $99 billion in losses for the U.S. travel economy.”

Needless to say, this has had a devastating impact on the entire travel industry.

In what ways has Covid-19 impacted travel?

1) Countries that rely heavily on tourism have seen an unprecedented drop in revenue. This includes, food establishments, hotels, Airbnb/Airbnb hosts, tour companies, as well as independent street vendors that depend heavily on tourist dollars.

2) Because of the various travel bands in effect, the airline industry has taken a major hit since most aren’t able to travel as freely. Many major airlines have been forced to limit their flights on where they can travel to.

3) Travel related products such as luggage brands, travel insurance providers, sun-care specific beauty brands, swimwear brands, outdoor and recreational stores such as, R.E.I. has experienced major financial setbacks due to Covid-19. Since people aren’t traveling and vacationing as much, there has been little to no need for consumers to purchase any travel related products.

So, with all of the negative effects of Covid-19 and its devastating impact on the travel industry, how is being a travel influencer during Covid-19 possible?

As with everything else that we’ve experienced throughout life, we know that all things are constantly in motion. The current conditions that we’re facing will not be here forever. Once our society has gotten a solid grip on the Covid-19 virus it is certain that the travel industry will want to desperately increase tourism to their specific regions. Hotels, tourism boards, airlines, car rental companies, and other various travel related brands will call on influencers as their first option in order to assist them with their marketing efforts in order to drive traffic & visitors to their specific industry or country.

As of now, many countries are opening up their borders, currently 24 countries are receptive in having U.S. tourist. Many travel related brands and those that benefit from it that are located within the United States are currently looking to make up for the loss of revenue that they would have received if Covid-19 had not have made a negative impact with their businesses. The local tourism aspect of the travel industry is a great option for travel influencers that wish to continue their content creation methods as a travel influencer during Covid-19 locally instead of embarking on international trips. As a travel influencer, highlighting local restaurants, hotels, activities, and other Covid-19-friendly activities for those that wish to travel locally will make a substantial impact on the travel industry.

Your average traveler, not travel influencers, will be scouring the web, Instagram, YouTube, and even Facebook searching for where they will be able to travel to next, either internationally or locally. They will depend on travel influencers and bloggers as the gate keepers on all things travel related when booking their next vacations.
