Millions of viewers were distraught, while others sighed with relief when CW canceled America’s Next Top Model after 22 cycles. Creator and executive producer of the reality show, Tyra Banks, even confirmed by tweeting, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smize because it happened.” It was definitely an end of an era. There would no longer be any iconic, quotable outbursts from Tyra Banks, No more life-changing style tips, and most importantly, the end of a legendary theme song.
But alas! Reports stemming from earlier this year confirmed an ANTM reboot with the mecca for successful reality television shows, VH1! There was no official word on the new seasons release date or what industry insiders will make up the panel of judges, but one major detail was confirmed: Tyra Banks would not return as the host. There is no doubt that readers released a dramatic sigh worldwide. However, Tyra stated that she “will continue as Executive Producer, but must turn my attention to new business endeavors, so I want to find a new host. I’m pumped to identify that person and bring back the show.” Soon afterwards, British singer and actress, Rita Ora, was confirmed as the new host.
Joining Rita Ora will be Drew Elliott, chief creative officer of Paper Magazine, Law Roach, celebrity stylist and creative director, and Ashley Graham, plus-size model and designer. These fresh faces will ensure a successful revamp of the America’s Next Top Model franchise by applying their individual abilities as pop culture influencers and using social media presence to not only peak the interests of former viewers, but to attract new fans as well. VH1 will premiere cycle 23 on December 12th. Be sure to tune in and see #WhatsNext.
I can’t wait! Super excited.
