This past weekend on September 4, the world celebrated the 35th birthday of the biggest superstars known to date, no one other than Beyoncé Knowles. In 2016, Beyoncé has had many moments as a singer, activist, friend, and mother that have left us still asking the old-age question, “How does she do it?” In honor of her seeing another great year on Earth, here is a month by month rundown of her greatest boss moment so far this year.
1.That time at the Superbowl
We all know that artists sometimes forget words, slip and fall, reach for notes that ends horribly, and have wardrobe malfunctions when it is their time to shine on the stage. It happens to the best of us, even Queen B, who has actually had some nasty spills. But how often are artists able to go into recovery mode like NOTHING even happened? During the Superbowl, Beyoncé and her dancers donned in Black Panther-esque uniforms, were dancing alongside Bruno Mars. It was time for Beyoncé and her ladies to have their moment when Beyonce hit a few moves, including one where she get bends at the knees toward the ground. Instead of popping straight back up, she hops backwards on her heels, almost falling on her butt. Keyword: ALMOST. Never let them see you sweat!
2. Beyonce’s WorkOut Plan
We as human beings are naturally inclined to buy products that are well advertised on the radio, in music, and on television. Have a celebrity like Beyonce as the face of said product? It’s a done deal. In March 2016, Beyonce released, “Ivy Park” an athleisure line, with yet another stunning video. Dressed in workout gear from the line, Beyonce can be seen in the opening seconds of the video titled, “Where Is Your Park?” looking fit as ever as she continues a monologue, describing the importance of fitness throughout her life. The Ivy Park clothing, which ranges from $30-200 can be found in Nordstrom, Topshop, and Net-A-Porter. In July, it was reported by Business Insider that Ivy Park sales were Nordstrom’s hottest selling brand online in April, beating out Estee Lauder for that month. If you aren’t convinced about Beyonce’s influence and the world of advertising, two words: Red Lobster.
3. The Secret Life of Lemonade
She’s done it time and time again, and each time her fans still are in amazement in the end. Teasing us with tweets in February, Instagram photos with yellow accents, trailers back in mid-April and eventually a full-length HBO movie on April 23, Beyonce had fans on the edge of their seats about what project she had up her sleeves now. Two days later, Lemonade was served. Beyoncé fans all over the world woke up to her sixth studio album, second visual album, “Lemonade” with incredible videos to match.4. When People Threaten to Boycott You But…You Really Don’t Care.
Although typically quiet in nature, Beyonce is definitely not afraid to speak her mind about the issues in the world, particularly shown in her choice to shed light on the Black Lives Matter movement as she has done many times this year. The Miami Fraternal Order of Police were not to happy with Queen B’s Superbowl performance, calling it anti-police and divisive. As a result, they, while encouraging other law enforcement groups, threatened not to show up to work security at Beyonce’s Formation tour kick-off concert, and encouraged other law enforcement groups, which was held April 26 in Miami. In the end, the boycott failed and Beyonce still reigned supreme, throwing a little more sass seen below.
5. Breaking Records
Can we talk about how all 12 tracks of ‘Lemonade” reached Billboard’s Top 100 by May 14 three and a half weeks after the release. Beyonce broke Taylor Swift’s 2010 record of 11 songs on Top 100 and became the first woman to hold the record for having 12 or more top 100 songs.
Usually when I hear of the BET Awards approaching, I usually just chuckle, say “ehhhhhh…” and go about my day. Rarely do I take the time to watch them as I have been disappointed in the quality of them the last few years. The 2016 BET Awards, surprisingly, had me hooked from the beginning to end, thanks to Queen B and Kendrick Lamar. The pair performed Beyonce’s “Freedom” from her latest album “Lemonade” in one of the most powerful performances I have seen. Dressed in a black fringed applique body suit and barefoot, Beyonce sang about the importance of never giving up on yourself no matter how rough life gets, as her background dancers danced on the stage turned wading pool behind her. After finishing her two verses, she joined her dancers and Kendrick Lamar, before the pair begin dancing in the water together.

7. Courtside with Serena
Over the years, Beyonce has come out with many songs about the importance of friendships between women and supporting each other. From putting Serena in her “Sorry” music video as a dancer while she sat on her throne, to cheering for her with Jay-Z on the sidelines at the women’s Wimbledon women’s final, Beyonce has been showing Serena Williams a lot of love this year. They were there again for her September 2nd U.S. Open game as well for their date night. Beyonce has also shown to have strong relationships with other women, such as former bandmate Kelly Rowland, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Michelle Obama, just to name a few. A boss not only needs other ladies by her side, but she is not afraid to be supportive and promote others around her, too.
8. She makes Chance The Rapper giddy
You know it’s real when a simple touch from someone special makes you the happiest person on Earth, if even for a few seconds. Chance The Rapper was already radiating happiness and joy from the moment he stepped foot on the Red Carpet, but his post-VMA interview was the best part of the night. As Beyonce walked past Chance The Rapper, as he was being interviewed backstage by an MTV reporter, she paused briefly to touch Chance’s shoulder and smile. Chance turned his head and literally screams, realizing who the legend that just crashed his interview actually was.
