As a recent college graduate, I have set out to picking up new skills and hobbies outside the classroom such as painting, leisure reading, traveling and who would have guessed it…makeup! I’ve always loved fashion, knowing the importance of dressing well, but at the age of 22, I’m just starting to learn the basics of makeup (ex: powder over liquid foundation keeps your face from melting off). Better late than never, right? All thanks to an app created by this inspiring entrepreneur as well as Youtube. My makeup bag has gone from eyeshadow, powder, mascara, and a few MAC lipsticks, to “Remind me to buy a new makeup bag soon…” in just a matter of months. From admiring the aftermath of highlighting and contouring, to taking notes on tutorials for specific looks, I’ve had quite the experience thus far. It’s important that not only our outfits are on point, but the makeup is too! No matter if you like barely there makeup or full coverage and identify yourself as beginner or an expert, these ladies have you covered. Check out these beauty experts showcase their 5 summer makeup tutorials that will have you summertime fine!

2. Just a POP of color
Called tightlining, this is a look I have always found cool, but have never taken the time to try. I’m a big fan of pops of color when it comes to fashion, so this one definitely caught my eye. It’s definitely going on my beginner “to try” list!

Also, check out one of my favorite vloggers, C.Key, do a raspberry pink look. It’s definitely more subtle, but I love the color she uses! For a list of additional colors that would be amazing to use on the waterline and eyelids, read this.

3. All That Glitters
Simply put, I love glitter….nails, shoes, clutches, pens…everything. Glitter is really fun and feminine, and adds a festive element to any outfit. Whether you’re going to a music festival or a night out with friends, glitter is what you need!
Cydnee Black is a 24-year old Denver-based MAC freelance makeup artist. I don’t remember what I was looking for in my original search, but her channel popped up, and her naturally blue eyes pulled me in to learn more about her! She is someone on my list of beauty vloggers I will look up if I want to try a particular look or technique. Check out her silver glitter summer look!

4. Less Is More
This is something that I’ve done many times before this year, but wearing minimal makeup with a bold lip is a definite on trend makeup look for this summer. Who knew! Cherry red is the particular special hue of choice, according to fashion and makeup experts. I love this because red is my absolute favorite color and Ruby Woo is the first lipstick I ever owned. I have fallen for Colourpop’s “Avenue”, which I personally feel fits my skin tone better and NOTHING says “I’m feelin’ myself” more than a bold red, right? If red lipstick doesn’t suit you there are many other vivid colors waiting to be picked up.

For other bold colored spring and summer lipsticks, take a look at this Afrobella compilation of 30 lipsticks for WOC. Also on Youtube, searching #ThePaintedLipsProject has helped me find new colors as well as seeing what a particular lipstick might look like on my skin tone.

5. My lipgloss is…back?
Usually when I think lipgloss, I think of the time in my younger days when I would buy the tubes of sticky gook because I thought it made me look extremely cute. As of 2016, they are nothing to scoff at as gloss is coming back popular again. For the summer time, fashionistas can also opt for the less sticky “lip oils” like these to achieve the old-fashioned shine. Take a look at how good you can look with gloss as your finishing touch!
